How it all started …
Initially I was brought in as a contract UX Designer for consulting agency GroundUp.io. I was hired to create the user flows and interaction for all features within a new product called Transmit Live. Features needed were provided by Product Manager and Founders. The original prototype was to be used as an investor tool to help gain seed funding for Transmit. After seed funding was gained, I was hired to join this small yet powerful start-up team to evolve the product’s user experience and interaction based on usability testing.

Building Empathy
Gaining insight from several meetings with broadcast and media companies, the main problem – broadcast distribution and how people consume their content are no longer through traditional cable channels. Broadcasters and media companies are now dedicating more time and resources to live streaming. They are looking for new ways to reach and retain viewers in real-time.

How we Ideate
From user data collected, I created user journeys and emotional results with each touch point users perform within the current platform. I collaborated with the engineering team to share my findings and iterate further about each experience one could encounter within the platform.
With our user pain points and business goals in mind, we redefined what actions and features were crucial, beneficial and realistic to build first. I updated to a simplified sitemap and user flows around these conclusions. Helping to create a seamless and simple experience for my target users, empowering them with customization tools to create and stream easily.
First to be updated, simplifying the user experience around (Broadcast Creation — Going Live). Listening to user feedback we needed a focus on personalization per social destination, easy way to add live syndication if desired, access to stream keys for broadcast connection / sharing, less pop-ups. The previous Broadcaster designs missed to address all these shortcomings.
I sketched numerous ideas and brainstormed various possibilities with my engineering team to create low-fidelity wireframes and prototypes to test with.
Transmit.Live was built in a modular system to be scalable so components can work well alongside each other, at the same time, render well on various device resolutions. Below are some UI elements from our living style guide.
